17-year-old Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh, who made history by winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, has spoken for the first time since her victories on Monday.
McIntosh expressed her excitement about her results and said, “I don’t think it’s sunk in at all. To be honest, I’m pretty, sleep deprived and tired. But also just coming here today. I knew that it wouldn’t be so much fun to celebrate what Swimming Canada has done, alongside my friends and my teammates. So, yeah, it’s been great, but I will definitely take a while for me to realize, like, what exactly we’ve done. I think it’ll sink in more once I head back to Canada.”
McIntosh’s remarkable achievement in becoming the first Canadian to win three gold medals at a single Olympic Games has positioned her as the heavy favourite to be Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremonies.
Additionally, she claimed a silver in the 400-meter freestyle event, further solidifying her exceptional performance at the Games.
