Icelandic Jakobsson sets Norwegian record at Danish Open
Icelandic born Sindri Þór Jakobsson set a Norwegian record at Danish Open 2011 today, with a time of 2:02.38 in the 200 butterfly. Andreas Schiellerup and Daniel Skaaning set Danish junior records, Jeanette Ottesen and Pernille Blume qualified for Shanghai 2011, and three swimmers qualified for the European junior championships in Belgrade this summer.

Belmonte 4:34.91 and Spanish 400 IM record
Mireia Belmonte GarcÃa was a league apart from the field on the way to her third victory at the Spanish Open in just over 24 hours, a 4:34.91 over 400 IM taking down her own Spanish record by 1.4 seconds. Mireia Belmonte has Phelpsian qualities
Technical director for Spanish swimming, Luis Villanueva, told reporters this week that Mireia Belmonte has Phelpsian qualities. “She is a swimmer with a beastly talent, there are very few like her.” She answered by bagging two titles on the first day of the Spanish Open in Madrid, clocking a Spanish record 2:06.25 in the 200 butterfly, and wiping 15 seconds off her best 800 freestyle time with 8:27.88. Danish Open starts with a bang
The Danes are testing out a for them new system this year, allowing only results from the Danish Open finals as qualification times for the World Championships in Shanghai and European Junior Championships in Belgrade this summer. It worked out well, with three swimmers qualifying for the World Championships and 10 for the European Junior Championships, during the first 2 hour-long final session, and Mie Ø. Nielsen from Aalborg erasing the 8 year record of Jeanette Ottesen in the 100 freestyle.
