• Former champion swimmer Simon Cowley is suing Nick D’Arcy for damages over the bar room incident which left him with such injuries that he has spent AUS$40,000 (US$41,700) on medical expenses, lost his place on the 2008 Australian Olympic team and had to quit his job. D’Arcy says he hit Cowley in self-defense after being slapped by a bigger, unknown man, but Cowley says the attack was unprovoked. Cowley needed extensive medical help as result of the attack, including corrective surgery to his jaw, cheekbone and nose, titanium plates inserted in his face and orthodontic braces. Source AFP.

  • I stand corrected, if Prince Albert II doesn’t feel threatened by Ryk Neethling, he won’t be threatened by anyone. Like the fact also that Ryk has ‘suits‘.

  • I think it is Wu Peng doing the Plunge for Distance here. Did you know that this was actually an Olympic event once? Part of the diving at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, USA. Rules that competitors dove into the pool from a standing position and their attained distance was measured after either 60 seconds passed or their head broke the surface, whichever came first. Winner then was William Dickey out of USA with 19.05 meters.

  • Imágenes del príncipe Alberto de Mónaco y Charlene WittstockHe he, Daddy sounds like a hardcore South African :-)

Wittstock’s patriotism is part of her family heritage. Her father, Mike, is a loyal, no-nonsense South African.

When Prince Albert II called her father last year to ask for her hand in marriage, she advised him to phone before South Africa played France in the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

“The next day I asked: ‘When did you call?’ and he said it was five minutes before kickoff. I asked what my father had said, and he replied: ‘He said he had to get off the phone because the national anthem was coming on.’ I said that I hope he got the message,” Wittstock said in a recent TV interview.

As of Thursday, there are no more water activities at the FGCU lake until further notice after this student drowned Wednesday night.

It was a tragic ending for Joel Johnson.

Infant swimming resource instructor Kathy Cole says this could have been avoided if Johnson knew the life saving techniques she teachers her students.

“Staying calm cool and collected is key. It does not matter if you are in 10,000 feet in the ocean or in a 10-foot deep pool,” she said.

  • Earlier this month, five-time Olympic swimming medalist Josh Davis was filmed at New Braunfels in a small role for the coming movie “Return of the Hiding Place”, which details the fight by a group of youths in Holland to save the lives of Jews during World War II. Davis, 38, plays a Dutch resistance agent passing over contraband to two young heroes of the film, a sequel to the 1975 movie based on the famous autobiographical novel by Corrie ten Boom.

“My little dream has always been to get asked to try out for the ‘Aquaman’ movie,” said Davis, laughing. “Too bad. I can hold my breath for a long time underwater for all those scenes.”
