11-Year-Old Sacramento Swimmer Takes Home Gold in World Dwarf Games | KRCA 3
11-year-old, Asha Woodruff may look like any competitive swimmer. “She has an incredible spirit. She is tough and fierce,” said Sonia Woodruff, Asha’s mother. But that fierce attitude wasn’t there from the start. “I didn’t really like it when I first got into the pool, but my mom made me and she’s like go and swim,” said Asha. From the beginning, the waters were rough for Asha. After birth, she was diagnosed with Achondroplasia, a rare genetic condition, and the most common form of dwarfism. “It was scary at first, not knowing what we were entering into, but luckily we found a community in the Little People of America, and they’ve been fantastic,” said Sonia Woodruff. This past week, Asha swam her way to Germany for the World Dwarf Games and racked up some serious hardware, including taking home the gold in the 25-meter breaststroke.
