‘Everyone Loved Jack,’ Mom Says as Drunken Boater Sentenced to Prison for Crash That Killed Swimmer on Gull Lake | MLive

A man who drunkenly drove a boat, hitting and killing a swimmer over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2020, is heading to prison.

Tyler Boyd, 39, of Richland was sentenced to 15 months to 15 years in prison by Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge Gary Giguere Jr. during a March 14 hearing.

He pleaded pleaded guilty Jan. 10 to marine safety — operating while intoxicated, causing death, in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. Boyd was operating a boat when it hit and killed Jack William Mitchell, 18, on Gull Lake on July 5, 2020.
