Swimmer injured in Perth bull shark attack

A man in his 50s has been attacked by a shark while swimming in Perth’s Swan River.

The swimmer was taken to the Royal Perth Hospital via ambulance with a serious leg injury after he was bitten by a two to three metre bull shark.

He was rescued by kayakers at Blackwall Reach at Bicton.

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan said the incident was “unexpected and surprising” as no one had been attacked by a bull shark in the river for 50 years, with the last fatality 100 years ago.
