Two leading swimming federations – the FINA world body and the European LEN – have rejected the resignation of Hungarian media entrepreneur Tamás Gyárfás from their boards until a court ruling surrounding his murder charge has been made.
When asked by Magyar Nemzet, both FINA director Cornel Marculescu and LEN president Paolo Barell said they will not accept Gyárfás’ resignation until after a court decision, saying their decision was based on the presumption of innocence.
Last week, more than twenty years after the killing of then well-known Hungarian media owner János Fenyő, the Budapest prosecution charged his rival Gyárfás with incitement to murder.
