Little penguin patients Ohope and Desmond take a swim!

Our little penguin (kororā) patients Ōhope and Desmond take a swim at our Vet Hospital!

Some of you may remember little Ōhope from the stories we’ve made on his progress ever since he arrived as a chick in October of last year. You’ll be pleased to know that Ōhope is now eating his adult food without any assistance from our vets!

Vet nurse Celine explains that Desmond arrived at our Vet Hospital from a similar place as Ōhope, after being found with a big abdominal wound that our vets suspect was from a dog bite – the greatest threat to our little penguins.

Please make sure to keep your dogs on a leash around little penguin nests as they return to the same nesting sites each season. This at risk species is found around the coastlines of New Zealand and on off-shore islands like Waiheke Island.
