Speedo teams up with Samsung for Gear Fit2 Pro, Gear Sport swim trackers

Samsung is diving headfirst into wearable computers, announcing a partnership with the iconic Australian swimwear maker Speedo to produce a range of swimming-related wearables that will automatically track your every move in the water.

Ahead of the mammoth IFA electronics tradeshow here in Berlin, Samsung announced two new, water-resistant devices, the Gear Fit2 Pro sports band and the Gear Sport smart watch, both of which will work with Speedo’s “On” app to track lap count, lap time and stroke type when they’re worn in the pool.

Samsung had been expected to announce the Gear S4, an update to its popular Gear S3 smartwatch, but instead it announced the Gear Sport, amounting to a slightly smaller, more sports-oriented version of the Gear S3, as well as the Gear Fit2 Pro, both of which will be water-resitant to five atmospheres, Samsung said.

Five atmospheres of water pressure is roughly equivalent to being 50 metres below the surface.
