Rubislaw Quarry in Aberdeen. 142m – 465ft in depth.
Scottish swimmers & triathletes took part in the first ever Rubislaw “Open Water” Swim. The water had been tested and safety kayaks were on hand for the organised swim. Big thanks to Hugh Black and Mike Adams who organised the event and invited me along.
Much of the granite that made Aberdeen’s buildings came from the quarry. In use from 1640 until 1969, granite was exported across the world. Though currently closed, there are plans to build a heritage centre, lower the water and hold future events at Rubislaw.
