Denied a minute’s silence, Spanish swimmer stands for Barcelona

UPDATE – FINA says in statement on 22 Aug 2017, that they were never informed about the request for a minute’s silence, and that they would ‘obviously immediately consider the minute of silence’

So this happened Saturday morning at the FINA 2017 World Masters Championships in Budapest – Apparently denied a minute’s silence for Thursdays’s terror victims in Barcelona and Cambrils, 71-year old Fernando Álvarez decided to not participate in the men’s 200 meter breaststroke preliminaries, and to instead remain standing for a minute on the starting block.
