Seven titles for seven nations
A great opening day say seven titles going to seven nations, including the host Hungarians, to the joy of the capacity crowd at the city Hodmezovasarhely.

Though only home of 45,000 inhabitants, the city of Hodmezovasarhely can be proud of a world-class swimming complex, featuring an indoor Olympic-size pool, further warm-up pools indoors and outdoors and other facilities, good enough at senior level. At the opening ceremony, Minister Janos Lazar (MP of the city), a keen swimmer himself, and LEN Treasurer Tamas Gyarfas both emphasised Hungary’s deep love to aquatics and competitive sports and the current Government’s commitment to host high level events in succession.
The opening day of the championships brought a series of outstanding efforts from the youngsters. The first title went to Anja Crevar of Serbia who did a great job while winning the 400m IM. Among the men, Germany’s Moritz Brandt clinched the first gold, he led the pack all the way and pulled off a fine victory.
In the dash, Andrii Khloptssov (UKR) won the men’s fly while Slovenia’s Tina Celik came first in the women’s breast. Soon Anna Kesely made the crowd jumped to their feet as she sailed away in the homecoming leg to win the 800m free with ease.
Russia, ruler nation of the previous editions, started to collect the titles later than usual, as they won the men’s 4x100m free relay while among the girls the Danish quarter was the fastest.
