Swim safety begins with the attention of parents

If it’s springtime in Houston, that means pools and beaches will soon be open to the public.

With the warm weather, fun in the water comes with the hidden dangers of drowning. It can happen in just a matter of seconds.

Experts say when a child drowns, there is usually no splashing and they do not scream, making the situation even scarier.

Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury related deaths among children ages 1-4.

Again, it only takes a few moments for a child to drown. Last year, 75 children drowned in Texas, eight of those happening right here in Harris County.
