Michael Phelps says he didn’t want ‘to be alive anymore’ after DUI arrest, preps for Rio

In a revealing new interview with Sports Illustrated, Olympic hero Michael Phelps spoke about his time in a rehabilitation facility, his regained appreciation for swimming … and the dark moments of his life following a 2014 arrest for driving under the influence.

In the interview, Phelps recalls hiding out at home following his arrest, when a police officer pulled him over in Maryland going 84 mph in a 45-mph zone. Phelps failed two field sobriety tests and was given a breathalyzer. He blew .14, which is over the .08 legal limit, and was arrested.

Days later, hiding out in his home, Phelps had his lowest moments.

From Sports Illustrated:
News organizations were camped nearby, looking for a glimpse of Phelps, who did not leave the town house for four days. “I was in a really dark place,” Phelps says. “Not wanting to be alive anymore.”
