1946 Yale Vs. Cuba Swim Meet at the Palacio de Desportivo in Havana

In June of 1946, Yale University’s legendary coach, Bob Kiphuth, was invited to take a team of swimmers to Havana Cuba for a five day series of swimming exhibitions and dual meet between his Yale University team and the Cuban National Team. Accompanying Kiphuth was 15 year old superstar Jimmy McLane, a student at Andover Academy, who won his first senior US long distance title as a thirteen year old. 7,000 people in the stands, including Cuba’s Presidente and First Lady.
