US swimmer Michael Phelps, known as “The Shark of Baltimore” will miss his participation at the Pan American Games in Toronto (July) and the World Championship (August), assured a spokesman from the US Swimming National Federation.
After a possible announcement for retirement from competition by the Shark of Baltimore in October 2014, such a statement is like turning a new page to a book.
However, the possibility for Phelps to take part in big competitions this year, with his hypotetical participation in both events, was opened in March.
Everything started when US Swimming Executive Director Chuck Wielgus said less than four weeks ago, that Phelps’ participation in both events was complicated, but “there are chances for it to let it happen.”
Now, US Swimming states that Phelps is not “a member of the US national team, by decision of both parts, the swimmer and the institution.”
Michael Phelps was sanctioned in September last year to 6 months without taking part in competitions, because of driving drunk and at excess of speed in Baltimore, Maryland (his native city).
The suspension over the winner of 18 Olympic titles in his career concludes on April 6.
