James Magnussen says jealousy was a factor among teammates in London

In a magazine interview, Magnussen said he believed envy of his high profile led to the claims by some of his Olympic teammates that he was given special privileges.

“Jealousy is a common human trait if one person’s getting more attention than others,” Magnussen told GQ.

“That was made very obvious to me in London . . . if the spotlight had fallen on someone else I’d have been jealous, too.

“I was aware of rumours I was getting special treatment and favouritism above others on the swim team, but I did everything I could to fit in.”
