Ottesen Gray aims for Rio, but not necessarily medals

After having been undecided since the Olympics, Jeanette Ottesen Gray yesterday announced her determination to soldier on until Rio 2016, while trying to take it easy and enjoy her swimming also. Shannon Rollason is apparently already a success as National Training Center head coach in Copenhagen, as Jeanette here on dr.dk gives him the credit for getting her back on track.

– I met him (Shannon Rollason) after coming home from Miami, that is, in early March. He has made me realize that it is still a sport, it is not my life. I just need to feel good, take it easy and enjoy my sport, says Jeanette Ottesen.

Ottesen has decided to try to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics, which then would be her 4th Olympics, but not to aim for medals.

– I am not aiming for a medal. I am going for getting to Rio. That is where the error has been, that I have announced that I was aiming for a medal.

– In this discipline which I swim, nothing is certain, regardless of whether I’m the world champion. Margins determine it. I aim to make it to Rio and get another Olympic final.

– It would be a lie to say that it (and Olympic medal) is not a dream, but it is not the goal, says Jeanette Ottesen.
