In June 2005, Patrick Musimu redefined human boundaries and became the first freediver to reach a depth below 200 meters (218 yards, 656 feet). Great pro-quality video here featuring him investigating the ancient freediving techniqe of the sponge fishermen on the island of Kalymnos in Greece, where they used a special (heavy) stone called a skandalopetra to dive head-first into the depths with, comparing it to how in the Persian gulf Emirati divers also used a stone or weight made of iron to dive (feet-first).
