Britain’s Liam Tancock improved his 50 backstroke world record, from 24.08 in the semifinal to 24.04 in the final. Russia’s Yuliya Efimova set a new 50 breaststroke world record, with a time of 30.09 where Amanda Reason’s world record was 30.23. Britta Steffen won the 50 freestyle with a world record time of 23.73, where Marleen Veldhuis’ world record was 23.96. And USA’s men set a new 4×100 medley world record, with a time of 3:27.28, where their world record from Beijing was 3:29.34.
