South African Tests Positive In Doping Test

As stated in this press release, Swimming South Africa has been informed that during the FINA Swimming World Cup in Belo Horizonte (BRA), swimmer Keri-Leigh Shaw tested positive for the substances Clenbuterol and Ephedrine.

Clenbuterol and Ephedrine are decongestants and bronchodilators used by for instance people with astma. Clenbuterol is also a non-steroidal anabolic and metabolism accelerator, and Ephedrine an amphetamine-like stimulant, which is probably why they are classified as doping.

Ms. Keri-Leigh Shaw is now provisionally suspended until a hearing before the FINA Doping Panel can be made, following the analysis of the B-sample.
